USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…There is talk in the industry that Deepika Padukone has personally taken on herself the task of sorting out the impending clash between her starrer Bajirao Mastani and Shah Rukh Khan's Dilwale.
But sources close to the Bajirao Mastani project completely deny any such overture on Deepika's part.
"She would never dare to pick up the phone and ask Shah Rukh to move his film forward. This is completely opposed to the reverence that she feels for Shah Rukh. She may be chummy with him. But, she sees him as her senior and mentor for having introduced her opposite himself in Om Shanti Om," says a source close to Deepika from the Bajirao Mastani team, who adds there is no move on the film's team's part to express any anxiety or panic over the rival film.
"Bajirao Mastani will release on 18th December. We don't know about the other film's plans," says a core member of the Bajirao Mastani team.
Shah Rukh Khan has opted to release his next big opus Dilwale during the Christmas Week on December 18.
Traditionally, the Christmas week is the domain of Aamir Khan. But, this year, Aamir has no releases lined up. Keeping this in mind, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had announced his historical opus Bajirao Mastani for December 18. But now, Shah Rukh's sudden decision to come on the same festive Friday as Bhansali seems to be indicative of his fans' desire to see him back in the theatres.
Opines a source from the trade that doesn't want to be named, "Shah Rukh's other two projects Rahul Dholakia's Raees and Maneesh Sharma's Fan have been postponed to next year. Rohit Shetty's Dilwale is moving ahead full-steam. It is only right that Shah Rukh's fans get the pleasure of one release this year."
About the clash with Bajirao Mastani, the trade expert says, "They are two very different films. One is a grand historical with lavish ornate sets and epic scale. Dilwale is a contemporary fun film. If, in the past, Lagaan and Gadar, which were both period films could succeed on the same Friday, why can't two such antithetical films work simultaneously?"
We aren't too sure if that line of argument holds true any longer. No two big films in recent years have worked together on the same Friday.
So what can we say? Except, may the best man win.
