USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Soha Ali Khan starrer 31st October, which is based on the aftermath of Indira Gandhi assassination, finally received the green light from the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) Revising Committee after a four-month wait.
Harry Sachdeva, who has produced the film, recently spoke about the changes they had to make during this process. He said that it took some time to convince the board but eventually they had managed to retain the scenes that were very important to the story and brought out the realism. They had a reason behind making this film which was to bring justice through the subject.
Speaking about the cuts that have been made, Harry Sachdeva informed that the scenes that showed violence and bloodshed had to be edited. They had to make nine major cuts including dialogues and scenes that could create massive protests from certain communities. The revising committee had asked them to trim down several scenes that were six to seven minutes long and the film was edited several times. All verbal abuses had to be beeped, even something as common as 'saala' on several instances.
Soha Ali Khan's film 31st October is set in Delhi in the year 1984 when the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her two Sikh bodyguards. Soha plays the character of a terrified Sikh woman, who along with her husband Vir Das and twin sons and a year-old daughter, try to survive the major riots that took place on this unfortunate day. For the role, Soha learned Punjabi and Vir did four to five months of training in action.
Directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil, 31st October will release later this year.
