The Promoting Maternal, Newborn, Infant and Child Sustainable Health Efforts (PROMISE) project, now in its third year and the success of the work, provided through a unique Canadian consortium of charities, has saved the lives of many newborns and mothers.
In Ghana, Malawi and Rwanda, an integrated approach focusing on health-service delivery and utilization, as well as improved nutrition, has changed the lives of families and communities. Stigmas around using health clinics, along with including fathers in maternal and newborn care, unheard of due to outdated attitudes in the past, has now led to a dramatic improvement in child mortality rates in the three nations.
The stories that exemplify the changes will be shown in a documentary preview on April 5th. this will give insight at what the PROMISE project has accomplished, through the real-life people who have been impacted.

The $6.6-million Promoting Maternal, Newborn, Infant and Child Sustainable Health Efforts (PROMISE) initiative aims to reduce maternal and child mortality in Ghana, Malawi and Rwanda through an integrated approach focusing on health-service delivery and utilization as well as improved nutrition. It promotes respectful and supportive maternity care, as well as mother and baby-friendly environments. It also fosters engagement by fathers and ensures supportive supervision for new mothers. The initiative is being implemented through a consortium led by the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada in partnership with ADRA Canada and Emmanuel International Canada.
