Brussels Mandir & Indian Cultural Centre in Belgium is celebrating its first anniversary on February 17.

Celebrations include classical Bharatnatyam dance performance by Belgian professional dancers to offer pushpanjali to Lord Shiva, which will be followed by community vegetarian lunch.

Meanwhile, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, applauded efforts of temple-project leaders and Brussels area community to realize this Hindu temple and cultural center.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this temple would focus in this direction. Zed stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism.

Special events during the coming months at this Mandir include Ramayan Path, Mahashivratri-Holi-Vaisakhi-Ramnavmi-Hanumanjayanti-Nagpanchmi- Krishnajanmashtmi-Karvachouth-Diwali-Kartikpurnima-etc. celebrations, Durga Chowki and Jagran, Deep Yagya and Mela.

Mandir, whose tagline is “Satyamev Jayate”, holds services and chanting regularly on Sundays and Tuesdays, besides yoga classes on Sundays. Before this Mandir, Hindu families reportedly used to gather in area churches and schools for worship and celebrations. Parkash Gurnani, Ravindra Pal Aneja and Shyam Verma are President, Vice President and General Secretary respectively of the Committee.

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents.

Settled in 580 CE, capital of Belgium, Brussels is described by Lonely Planet as: “a city of fine food, café culture, Art Nouveau architecture and the surreal”.
