Leaders of Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and other faiths came together on April 30 to help Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Reno (Nevada) students to raise funds for victims of recent Boston tragedy.
This prayer-service, lead by distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, included prayers/reflections from various faith traditions and began with lighting of the candles and participatory rendition of Gayatri Mantra, considered most sacred mantra of Hinduism.
Organized by TMCC students, this Boston Benefit Event aimed at helping the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15. Besides multi-faith prayer service, it also included local Boston Marathon participants Amy Blomquist and Sonja Pippin, live music, entertainment and VA Women’s Color Guard. Participating TMCC student groups included Student Government Association (SGA), Phi Beta Lambda, South Asian Students, Truckee Meadows Veterans Club, Toastmasters, Philippine United Student Organization and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.
According to SGA President Navgeet (King) Zed, all proceeds will go to non-profit Wiggle Your Toes Foundation, which supports amputees and their families that have experienced limb loss.
