Toronto Fashion Week: Best Hair and Makeup Looks for Fall 2014

Greetings Lovely Readers! Toronto Fashion Week has officially wrapped up and although I’m still exhausted, it was a phenomenal experience watching the hair and makeup “magic” happen backstage.

Here are my favourite hair and makeup looks from the Fall 2014 season of WMCFW, with some handy tips on how you can achieve the same results at home. Enjoy!

Hair by Redken

Pink Tartan hair was one of my absolute favourites last week. The collection told the story of a Canadian girl living a normal everyday life so the hair reflected that natural and lived-in look. The hair was set off-centre, with soft waves and looked pretty without looking structured. They really wanted the hair to have movement, making it look effortless.

As a huge fan of Joe Fresh, I was very excited to see what the fall hair would look like. For hair, Joe wanted to have a more bohemian feel so the models wore a dishevelled side braid with lots of texture. Again, they didn’t want it looking too polished but rather wanted something with more of a grunge feeling with soft wisps framing the face. One great tip that Jorge Joao, Lead Stylist for Redken gave us was to take the elastic and tie the hair at the top before you start the braid. Once you are done, cut the top elastic so your hair and braid looks fuller and not as structured. The big focus of this look was to make the models look chic and effortless.

Narces hair had more of a classic feel to it. It was all about being sleek, stylish, but again without looking like you spent hours doing your hair. As a result, sleeked back, smooth hairwas pulled into a classic small bun at the base of the head. As with other looks, hair was once again primed with Pillow Proof Primer, prepped with mousse for texture and then finished off with Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray to get rid of flyaways and give the hairstyle that polished sleek finish. Definitely a look you can wear to the office or after work for some drinks!

Make Up by Maybelline

Mikhael Kale’s look was one of the most natural and wearable ones that I’ve seen last week. The look was a little more muted but still modern and very pretty. Skin was kept very fresh and fair, so a bit of BB cream was spread all over the face to keep skin looking nice and dewy. Fake eye lashes were then applied with a few applications of Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara. I loved how simple, yet beautiful this look was.

Pink Tartan’s makeup was inspired by a stylish girl braving the polar vortex for a glamorous night out. Incorporating elements of texture, the skin was given a matte centre and dewy side. For the eyes, the look was understated but still dramatic, with blended brown Lasting Drama Gel Liner in the crease, which created a soft base for the rest of the face. Crayon Kohl Liner by Color Show in Chocolate Chip was used to line the top and bottom lash lines, and Barely Beige pencil lined the waterline, finishing with a few coats of Pumped Up! Colossal mascara. All-together this helped create a larger eye without looking like the model was wearing a lot of make-up. For the cheeks, the goal was to create a “wind burn” look with a touch of sun. To achieve that, Grace Lee, Maybelline’s Lead Makeup Artist used Fit Me Bronzer on the cheeks, nose and forehead, and Master Glaze in Pink Fever blended into the cheeks. Taking elements of frost and snow, Color Tattoo Cream Gel Shadow in Too Cool was added around the cheeks, to highlight the skin. Finally, the look was finished with a perfect nude lip in Color Sensational in Nude Lust.

Narces look was inspired by the British Flag, with emphasis on Union Jack red. Dewy skin was framed by strong brows filled in with Mastershape Pencil in brown. Expertwear Eyeshadow in Vanilla and Expertwear Eyeshadow in Earthly Taupe were applied into the crease, with a few coats of Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara to really bring out the eyes. Baby Lips in Quenched and Color Tattoo in Barely Branded were used to highlight the skin and give it some glow. But the cherry on top was the Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in On Fire Red which brought it all together. The contrast of textures and colours created a look that is simple yet effective. After seeing nude lips all week, a strong red lip was a nice change.

So there you have it, a quick rundown of my favourite looks from the Fall 2014 season of Toronto Fashion Week.
