EXPECTATIONS

The music of Baaghi had done well and hence when second in the franchise is arriving, one expects the team to deliver something exciting all over again that compliments the ‘masala’ genre of the film. As is the trend, multiple composers, lyricists and singers join hands to put together as many as half a dozen songs for this Sajid Nadiadwala film which has Ahmed Khan taking over the mantle to direct Tiger Shroff.

MUSIC

Yesteryear chartbuster ‘Mundiyan’ is heard all over again more than a decade and a half after it turned popular, what with Sandeep Shirodkar picking up the mantle to recreate it. Navraj Hans and Palak Muchhal pair up for this Punjabi dance number featuring Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani which has Ginny Diwan as the lyricist. There are quite a few variations that are brought in the 2018 version and you don’t mind that.

As for the recreated version of the 80s chartbuster ‘Ek Do Teen’ [Original Music: Laxmikant Pyarelal, Lyrics: Javed Akhtar, Singer: Alka Yagnik], there were bound to be extreme reactions, as is the case with most such experiments. However, soon enough things settle down and audiences begin to accept the new version. Same is the case for this Sandeep Shirodkar’s recreated version as well that Shreya Ghoshal stepping in as the singer. The lyrics remain just the same though and that was expected too since the core of the song was ‘Ek Do Teen’ and that’s something that cannot be tampered with.

After a couple of dance numbers, there is ‘thehrav’ in the proceedings with composer/lyricist Arko roping in Atif Aslam for ‘O Saathi’. A love song which is just the kind that one has heard earlier too in Tiger Shroff films like Heropanti and Baaghi, this one has a smooth flow to it and makes one listen to it carefully. Moreover, additional vocals by Payal Dev are good add-ons as well which give it a complete appeal. Listen to this one by playing on loop and you may just about warm up to it.

The best of the lot though is Mithoon composed and Sayeed Quadri written ‘Lo Safar’. There is very good lyrical quality to this romantic number that touches your heart in the first listening itself. Rendered by Jubin Nautiyal who has been quite consistent behind the mike for last few years, ‘Lo Safar’ is the kind of number that should bring in some kind of respite in the film’s narrative with all the action surrounding it.

Shruti Pathak’s voice is heard right at the beginning of ‘Soniye Dil Nayi’ which has Gourov-Roshin stepping in as the composers. A Punjabi-Hindi number written by Kumaar, this one has Ankit Tiwari leading the show and his lovelorn voice yet again manages to make an impact. Yet another number that is the recreated version of a yesteryear Punjabi hit, this one takes a different tangent by being slow in its treatment.

Pranaay is on the driver’s seat to put together the theme track ‘Get Ready To Fight Again’ which is truly high impact. This one could well have appeared right at the beginning of the album due to the thematic quotient that it carries. As a matter of fact this one has the kind of hook sound that should excite masses in a big way when it appears in the film. Written by Ginny Diwan, this one has Anand Bhaskar, Jatinder Singh and Siddharth Basrur come together and create the necessary impact.

OVERALL

The music of Baaghi 2 is adequate for the kind of stage and setting that the film warrants. There is a mix of situational, romantic and dance numbers that keep the pace right for the album.
