One has good expectations from the music of Inkaar, especially since Sudhir Mishra's last film, Yeh Saali Zindagi, had the kind of music which had grown over a period of time. For his latest offering, he brings together Shantanu Moitra & Swanand Kirkire and though that doesn't quite make you jump high, there is still reasonable excitement to check out what the team has to offer.

MUSIC

The kind of sound that kick-starts 'Darmiyan' instantly connects you to the music that one relates with a Sudhir Mishra film. Swanand Kirkire lends an unconventional start to the album and also brings himself behind the mike for ' Darmiyan' which isn't really an easy number to follow. Given the past record of music coming from the house of Sudhir Mishra (which requires a patient listening), one plays it on repeatedly. Unfortunately, the end result still doesn't excite much and you move on to what rest of the album has to offer.

The composer-lyricist jodi of Swanand Kirkire and Shantanu Moitra doubles up as singers as well with 'Maula Tu Malik Hai'. Yet again, this one has a Sudhir Mishra stamp to it and thankfully the overall composition is more interesting than the song preceding it. Though the beginning is decent for the minute long duration that it plays, the song peaks by the time it reaches its hook ' Maula Tu Malik Hai'. A situational number expected to play in bits and parts during the film's narrative; it is an play composition but still makes one long for that one big number that could raise the fortunes of the soundtrack of Inkaar.

The album stays consistent in its sound with 'Zindagi Ka Karobar' which is rendered by K. Mohan. With a philosophical touch to it, this one is entirely away from the quintessential Bollywood musical outings that one is used to. Though one can't really expect this song with a liberal dose of rock to march its way to the top of the charts, in the film's context it is expected to add some value.

'Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai' has the best start amongst the songs heard so far and its rock flavour is taken to a good height by Suraj Jagan who makes an impact in the way only he can, ever since he first made a major impression in Rock On. The track stays on to be ferocious right through its four minute duration and one can sense a lot being conveyed through Swanand Kirkire's lyrics in this song which carries good meaning in the film's context.

'Inkaar (Theme)' concludes the album with a three minute piece that starts off on a rather somber note with Monali Thakur joining in after a while. Her voice is heard in the background for this theme piece that is quite well tuned and gathers the pensive mood that the protagonists must be going through in a right manner.

OVERALL

Inkaar turns out to be an out and out situational outing that doesn't really throw any chartbuster numbers. Even from being attached to the film from situational perspective, the end results are just about fine and one doesn't really foresee a long lasting feel to them.
