The South Sudanese chief negotiator for post-independence issues with Sudan Pagan Amum has said that South Sudan is committed to ensuring restoration of total peace and stability with Sudan.

“The position of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) is to peacefully resolve all the outstanding issues namely oil, Abyei and border demarcation peacefully. We have just one plan which is to build peace and prevent war as well as fostering peaceful relations and cooperation between the two countries”, said Amum.

“If Khartoum fails to change their current attitude of threatening and bombing South Sudan we will rise up and react accordingly in a bid to protect ourselves”, he added.

The two countries are expected to resume talks in Addis Ababa from Monday, 21 November to deliberate on the remaining issues of the expired Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Amum, however, revealed that the Khartoum government has refused to take part in the talks, according to reports by the talks’ host, the African Union.

“We are ready for the talks and if Khartoum accepts, then we are good to go”, he said.
