Dr. Benjamin Marial speaking to the press in Juba [©Gurtong]The Republic of South Sudan has warned politicians who instigate violence in the country. The government is on the process of establishing an investigation committee to arrest these perpetrators, the government Spokesperson Dr. Barnaba Marial has said.

While speaking to the press early this week, Marial said that, “those politicians trying to incite conflicts between our communities are warned that this is not the way to do it.”

“There are certain politicians who are trying to agitate for demonstration. Please let us help our government to develop instead,” he stressed.

The Minister’s caution comes following the disastrous inter-tribal fight that broke out in the South Sudan’s largest State, Jonglei last month killing an estimated over 2,000 people.

It is the worst ever reported conflict related casualty in Pibor County of Jonglei State in 2011 and after an end to the more than two decades of civil war fought between Sudan and South Sudan where an estimated 2.5 million people were killed.

Dr. Marial said that the government is in the process of establishing a committee to  investigate the incident, adding that, it will also deploy more armed forces in addition to the already deployed security personnel in Jonglei.

He pointed out that, plans are underway to mobilize community leaders for reconciliation and peace initiatives. The government is also planning to intensify its disarmament policy in that State.
