Dr. Sture Nyolme who is leading the medical team clarified that while patients from Magwi, Torit, Ikotos and Lafon/Lopa Counties of Greater Torit received their treatment at Torit Hospital, those from Kapoeta South, Kapoeta East, Kapoeta North and Budi of Greater Kapoeta are being examined at Katiko Hospital.

Dr. Nyolme told the press in Torit on Tuesday that they successfully completed their work in Greater Torit at Torit Hospital. The team is currently at Greater Kapoeta to attend to patients at Katiko Hospital, the process began on Wednesday 18th January 2012.

He disclosed that in Torit Hospital, 524 eye patients were attended with 82 having their eyes operated on; 51 confirmed eye cataracts and treated while 24 were of eye trachoma and 26 of them got free medicated eye glasses.

A Senior Medical Officer (SMO) in the main Hospital of Torit, Dr. Augustine Okwahi commended the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) for their generosity by treating the eye patients.

He appealed to the team to bear with them as they reach all the people in the State suffering from eye cataracts since many people from Greater Torit did not make to Torit Hospital and only two patients from Magwi managed to get treatment.

Dr. Okwahi attributed difficulties of patients to reach destinations to attend treatment to poor road infrastructure in the State.

Tthe SMO commented that the eye clinic surgery was very successful. “We are going to Greater Kapoeta to carry out similar treatment and we are hoping that blind people will all come.”
