The committee chairperson Margaret Fozia told Gurtong that there were four issues raised during the meeting with fencing of the state civil hospital being the first priority.

Fozia said that the budget for the fencing was discussed and passed by the assembly but nothing has been done to date. She revealed that the Kenyan Commercial Bank (KCB) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) had promised to support in the fencing project but to an extent.

The other thing that was discussed is the special wing ward for patients who prefer and ready to pay for privacy, comfort and security. Fozia also revealed that the referral services for civil servants to other states have not been implemented due to lack of communication and public awareness.

The health minister was also questioned about the ghost names still existing in the payroll of which he claimed to be unaware of. The minister promised to visit all the WES counties and even list a number of trained personnel who are fit to work for the community.

The committee also raised questions on cases of nepotism and directed the newly appointed minister to come up with measures on how to struck off ghost workers and staff relatives who are paid unconstitutionally.

Mr. Gbongo added that there are several private clinics in various towns that are selling expired drugs to the public and that staff are not well trained hence the need for urgent investigations to establish facility owners.
