The Arch Bishop of the Anglican Church in South Sudan Daniel Deng Bul said early this week in Juba that peace efforts initiated in the state have begun bearing fruits.
He said cattle raids, child abduction and killings are on a decline and called for intervention in the priority areas to avoid a return to bloodshed.
“The priorities we are calling are what we call basic services like water, education, health and food security. All these are needed at the moment for continued peace”, said Bul.
He said the displaced are now returning to their residences and added that mass efforts such as bringing all the county chiefs, the youth and women together at peace and reconciliation meetings.
Jonglei, South Sudan’s largest state, has experienced the worst security since the 2010 general elections that saw disgruntled losers rebelling against the sitting government led by Kuol Manyang Juuk.
The State had experienced one of the worst insecurity threats between late last year and March this year when at least 3,000 people were killed in clashes between the Lou Nuer and Murle ethnic communities.
