The Director in charge of the South Sudan Police Service Auxiliary forces in Greater Upper Nile Brigadier General Mathew Mathiang Magordit told Gurtong that the youth comprising Murle and Anyuak tribesmen were found in possession of guns and satellite phones.

He said the youth have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Juba for further questioning.

“We are going to interrogate the arrested youth so that we can have clear information on their intentions. The initial feedback we got from them was that they had been sent. All that we now want to know is who sent them and for what purpose”, said Brigadier General Magordit.

He at the same time refuted reports that his forces are involved in gross misconduct in Pibor.

“That is not true and is a malicious step to tarnish the image of the police. In fact, it is the other way round as our officers are being targeted and killed by armed youth”, he said.

Last week, the police chief said 21 officers affiliated to the South Sudan Police Service Auxiliary forces operating in Jonglei State have been dismissed over gross misconduct, including drunkenness and absconding duty.

The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) under the command of Lieutenant General Kuol Diem Kuol has increased patrols along South Sudan’s border with Ethiopia.
