The move has been taken following a break out of violence that emanated from ethnic differences at the institution in recent months.
The university management has also banned the umbrella student union, the Juba University Students Union (JUSU) for violating the principles for which it was established.
“Both the Dean’s Board and the Committee on students and the rest concluded that JUSU violated the principles for which it was established. Therefore, the Juba University Student’s Union is hereby dissolved”, the University Vice Chancellor Prof Aggrey Abate told the press in Juba.
“All students’ political activities on university premises are suspended until further notice. Moreover, no student alone or in partnership is allowed to carry out any income generating activities within the university premises”, he added.
The Vice Chancellor also announced other drastic measures after confirming the reopening of the campus in two weeks’ time.
He said the campus will only re-open on condition that students accommodated at the Juba campus hostel vacate.
“There will be no accommodation for students in hostels on campus when the university re-opens. No meals will be offered to students in campus upon re-opening of the university. All students are to accommodate themselves off campus and report for lectures as required”, said Prof Abate.
At least 500 students have been residing in the campus hostels since its closure.
A number of students Gurtong spoke to welcomed the disbanding of the Union, saying it is just an irrelevant body that does not offer any services offered to them but only seeks to disrupt academic programmes.
The university was closed in February this year after a tribal fight between the students that claimed lives and leaf several injuries.
