Speaking during the launch, the Programme Manager of HIV/AIDS for the diocese, Kumboyo Philip Tombwada, said the sports tournament will also be running in other counties including Maridi, Ezo, Ibba, Nzara and Tombura.
The diocese has football clubs in all the parishes. Tombwada said that the diocese chose sports as it is the best way to sensitise on HIV/AIDS as it brings youth from all corners of the county.
The manager is also organising for a marathon race in the county where the adults will also be integrated.
“This is a way to show our people that HIV/AIDS exists among us”, he said.
In a release, the head of HIV/AIDS Commission Jean Charles Bangbe noted that over 8000 people are living with HIV/AIDS in Western Equatoria State.
Bangbe noted that as church, there was need to let the public know how to prevent the disease.
He urged both boys and girls are to participate in the sports activities.
This occasion was graced by his Lord Bishop Edward Hiibiro together with officials from The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) and Caritas.
