In a statement to the press after the meeting, South Sudan government Spokesperson Dr. Barnaba Marial said more emphasis were put to ensure all necessary preparations are put in place for the resumption of the production.

“The preparation of resumption of oil flow is going ahead this is important news that the preparation for the resumption of the oil flow will continue,” Marial said.

Meanwhile, Unity State Governor Taban Deng Gai visited Unity Oil Field in the State to access the progress on the preparations for resumption of work. 

The first visit was on the 11th November 2012 whereby he toured the Unity Oil Field facility and was shown the progress made so far.

On the second visit on the 14th November 2012, Gai, officially oversaw the switching on of 2 (two) power generators at Unity Power Station that provides the main electricity for stations and the oil pump infrastructure.

Specifically generators number nine and six were switched on as South Sudan awaits the resumption of full scale operations.

Stephen Dheiu on Monday told press in Juba that, 80 per cent of the preparations on the measures for the resumption of the oil flow are complete including preparations in Khartoum, adding productions will start after a week.

Marial further said the President reiterated his commitment for the implementation of the cooperation agreement reached between the two countries in previous month of September in Addis Ababa.

He said the implementation of the agreements “will continue within the guide lines of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel that has established a road map for the resolution of the conflict on the nine agreements.”
