“The Ministry of Environment has now sign Memorandum of Understanding with UNEP to set up on Ozone office in South Sudan to help the government. For the first time South Sudan has now become a full member of UNEP. The Ministry is going to be invited every year to be attending UNEP Council Meeting,” Gore said.

According to the Minister, South Sudan will be working together with UNEP for the restoration of ozone concentrations in high altitudes around the planet, for the protection of life on Earth from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays.

This means that the ministry shall produce reports on the status of environment.

“The Government and institution must insure that there is sustainable consumption and production. UNEP now want all the countries and their government to ensure that there is need for people to adhere to the regulations and producers of UNEP,” said Gore.

South Sudan is one of the 197th signatory to the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol.

The minister said there is still a vast amount of work to do to ensure development in South Sudan on an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way which will in turn ensure livelihoods and public health in the years to come.

There is a lot of waste in the world and more than 2 billion people are below the poverty line eating nothing. In 2010 UNEP launched a campaign to Keep South Sudan Green aimed at planting over 500,000 trees around Juba city.
