The bishop passed on at Aghan Khan Hospital in Kenya on Monday due to kidney failure. 

Bishop Dominic Kimengich of Lodwar (Kenya), Bishop Erkulano Lado Tombe of Yei, Bishop Emeritus Paride Taban and State officials led by Governor Louis Lobong Lojore and Interim Administrator of Torit Diocese Fr. Dario Hakim accompanied the body from Juba. 

All roads from Torit airstrip to the bishop’s residence where the body was kept have been so busy with mourners shedding tears uncontrollably for the sudden demise of their man of God. 

A journey from Torit airstrip to the bishop’s residence which supposed to take only fifteen minutes walk took more than an hour.  

Despite hailing from Ikwoto County, Bishop Akio will be greatly missed by all tribes for uniting all the communities in the state. 

One could see everyone almost all people clad in black shirts which symbolized black day and several others collapsed while others were held up by friends as they failed to manage their emotions.
 
After the prayer at the Bishop’s residence, the congregation gathered until this morning waiting for the body to be taken to Catholic cathedral in Torit Town for the final service before his burial today. 

The state governor declared today a holiday in respect of the fallen bishop. 

“We are closing this Parliament with mixture of happiness and sorrow because we have lost one of our religious leaders. Therefore, on behalf of Eastern Equatoria state government, on behalf of the citizens and Christians of this state, also on my own behalf, the government is declaring one day of mourning from tomorrow,” he said.
