Ayom Wol Dhal, the Communication and Outreach Campaign of Initiatives of Change-South Sudan said the decision was reached on Saturday in a meeting with some of the stakeholders chaired by the South Sudanese Vice President Dr. Riek Machar.

“Over the past two months, intensive preparations for the launch have been underway, which included consultation with Civil Society, Faith Based Organizations, political parties, international stakeholders and media,” Ayom said in a statement.

“In the course of these consultations and the responses in media, it became clear that there was some confusion and concern regarding the level of inclusion in the process. The current delay is meant to allow for greater consultation with stakeholders,” she explained.

The reconciliation process is designed to achieve healing and reconciliation on a national scale, reducing internal conflicts and paving the way for true national cohesion.

The conference is a high-profile launch of a ‘Journey of Healing for National Reconciliation’, scheduled to last for 5-10 years and to link programming in all states of South Sudan.

Ayom said related to the campaign is the training of 200 Peace and Reconciliation Mobilizers, who will undertake community-level sensitization all over South Sudan.

The training is being led by Workshop for Africa, a specialist international organization, with elements to be delivered by South Sudanese and other international bodies.

She pointed out that the training of the mobilizers is scheduled to begin on April 2.
