The Council tasked the ministry to add more roads into the plan that covers eleven major roads linking the states and the country. The Council has also urged the ministry to include in their budget some of the money that will cover some of the roads.

Deputy Minister of Roads and Bridges Hon. Simon Majok presented the $9.985billion plan to the council and they approved it with amendments.

The project that will be funded by the government, a Chinese bank, the World Bank and the African Development Bank will connect the states and the country.

The project is intended to improve security and provide economic stability to the country.

Minister of Roads and Bridges, Gier Chuang Aluong, earlier said that roads are a key to boosting agriculture, trade, education, health and security in South Sudan.

“We are starting a ten year implementation plan for roads in South Sudan and beyond so that it can connect the South to other countries,” he said.

He cited poor roads as a source of insecurity and that the delay in army’s response to Jonglei tribal clashes because of the poor roads in the state.
