Last week the national government approved the construction plans for Rumbek, Yambio, Kuackjok, Torit and Malakal but was temporary suspended; it is not clear whether the rest of the States airport construction plan is under way

The civil society umbrella in the State strongly condemned the act as a violation of the citizenship rights as the other states will benefit.

“We as civil society organization working in Unity State have to correct what is not correct, the people of this State have seem the most suffering in South Sudan yet the government could not even remember them, the resources are just going like that,” said Mr. Lat Kuem, head of civil society organization in Unity State.

“If it is a government’s general plan, Unity State would have been included. We urge the national government to revise it decision or else to include the rest of the State to plans of airport construction,” he added.

“We have witnessed very closely what our national government was doing to this State, they have tried to relocate the refinery from Unity State to Warrap which is not oil producing and the National Government is also planning to divert some shares from the State percent and use it for their own benefit,” they said.

Since 2009, the State Government has requested the Ministry of Roads and Transport to construction Bentiu International Airport, but nothing has been done so far.

The civil society organization will issue an official press release this week rejecting the construction of six airports from the oil money leaving the oil producing States venerable.

South Sudan government has suspended the reconstruction of six key airports in the country, citing lack of transparency involved in the dealings between the Ministry of Transport, Roads and Bridges and the contracted companies.

The resolution was passed in a meeting chaired by the President, Salva Kiir during the usual Council of Ministers meeting held at the State House, Juba, last week.

The cabinet had also decided that, the Ministry of Transport suspends the contracts until the committee accomplishes its task.

The reconstruction of all the airports was supposed to cost $945 million.
