Water Treatment Manager Joseph Grimay High said taxes have limited the extension programs due to the taxation being levied to the merchants who are buying from the factory.

Aqua Crystal Water limited on its opening has led to the reduction of price of water sales per 600ml bottle from 5 SSP to 2 SSP and 1.20 SSP at the factory.

The manager said that the company is planning to increase the size of the firm by improvising soft drinks industry next year if there are no hindrances.

He said transport of raw materials from outside to Malakal is expensive.

“Wherever we go, we are not stopped, we are allowed to move in any offices seeking for help and advise on how to operate in the state,” said the manager.

The manager decried of the high taxes adding that it is meaningless if the prices still remain the same.

“Our target of forming this company was to reduce the water prices in the state but if the water prices are not reduced then it becomes meaningless,” he said.

The manager said that if the water is to be transported to the counties without high taxes then it would reduce the prices in the counties thus helping the communities drink safe and clean quality water.

“Our mission is to make sure that all the citizens in Upper Nile State buy water at 2 SSP in the market so that people will be able to drink safe and quality water,” he said.

The manager forwarded complains from the merchants to the Revenue Authority and received a positive response for the taxation units to avoid taxing merchants but this has not changed.

The Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State Maj. Gen. Mounto during the launching of the Water Company in Malakal lauded the company and urged more investors to come up with developmental plans that would be different from the one already established in the state so as to create jobs and development in the state.
