Governors’ Forum Opens Amid Criticism On Service Delivery

The four-day forum has brought together all the 10 governors, executive and other senior government officials of the national government and diplomatic corps in the country.

Opened by the President Salva Kiir, South Sudan government Spokesman Michael Makuei said that “the objective is to have an overview on the second conference held last year. It enable us have a look at how far did we implement the resolutions of the second governors forum.”

He said the forum is expected to come up with a focused unified plan of action in terms of education, health and road network among others.

Hon. Onyoti Adigo, the Leader of the Minority in the South Sudan national parliament underscored the forum, saying that it “is a good opportunity” to better the advocacy for better governance.

Though last week the civil society, CEPO challenged that several resolutions passed in previous fora were not been implemented and called on the governors to hold the national government accountable on the non-implementation of the resolutions midst the ongoing forum.

Last year’s theme was ‘Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security and Economic Growth” and covered topics including economic development, mechanisms to support agricultural development and production, the South Sudan Development plan as well as individual state issues.
