Information and Health spokesperson Petro Juoy Machar said “the president should revise his decision and to lift the declaration of the State of Emergency” adding that it’s impossible for him [President] to declare that “in the areas that are not under his control”.

He also said that the government forces have been attacking the rebel forces in Bong, an area between Mayom and Abiemnhom County but they were repulsed back, denying that the government force entered the County.

It has been reported that Mayom County falls under the hands of government forces for the last two days but opposition groups that occupied seven out of nine counties refutes the claim saying they have repulsed them back several times to Abiemnhom.

Witnesses said the situation in Mayom and Abiemnhom is “a win – win game”.

It was also reported that heavy fighting erupted yesterday in Mayom where the opposition group claimed control of Mayom.

He also stressed that the State is 100% secure and nobody should live in fear.

“The State citizens who are in Abiemnhom and Pariang County should not involve themselves in to this crisis, they should not isolate themselves, they did not take part in the killing in Juba but if they declared war against their own brothers, we advise them to put down their arms and live in peace…there are some elements who are mobilizing the civil population in Pariang, this is not good for them, those who want to remain with President Kiir for life should not stay here, let them go to Juba rather than mobilizing the civilians to participate in the war but if they are going to insist, we will defend ourselves,” he added.

The situation in Bentiu remained calm as some 8,000 people continued to shelter in the UN base in Bentiu town, and about 2,500 in the UN base in Pariang.

The response to people in need in Bentiu continued despite the insecurity, with food distributed to some 7,600 individuals on 26 December. Water and sanitation support continued, as well as the provision of medical supplies and drugs.

Aid agencies in Sudan reported that some 1,850 South Sudanese had crossed into Sudan’s South Kordofan State from Unity State. Some 2,000 people are estimated to have arrived into the Abyei area, most of whom are women and children. Another 32,000 people are reportedly stranded in the Ragat border area between South Sudan and Sudan, after fleeing violence in Unity State.
