The officers have been under music instruments training for one year as the first South Sudanese prison service music band in the state after the break-away from Sudan in 2011.

“I am very happy that all state organized forces have formed their music band and this is an attitude of peace promotion among the army and the community,” said the State Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan.

Rizik thanked the prison service for the initiative, referring to it as a peaceful example of his state to the organized forces and their firm stance to prevent any escalation of violence to the state during the last one month of violence in the country.

He said a peaceful country is based on the army’s capability in protecting their people. He promised to provide the prison officers in the state with new uniforms.

The State Prisons Services Director, Maj. Gen.  Anthony Majok Makuei during the inauguration said his officers will now join the police, SPLA and Wildlife music bands in promoting music in the state.

“We in the prison service department have organized this music band as a move to restore the culture of information in the country,” said Makuei.

Meanwhile, the state Information Minister Alfred Deric Oya urged Fire Brigade to follow the example of the prisons service.
