Jonglei’s State Director of SSRC David Gai Deer told Gurtong that organisation will conduct a week long assessment and identify humanitarian needs of the persons displaced in the area.

“After the SSRC assessment, report will immediately be sent for action,” he told Gurtong on Monday.

Two weeks ago, general cleaning of Bor began following directives from state government which also urged all civil servants to immediately return home.

According to Bor County Commissioner Dr. Agot Alier Leek has said that state government is working very hard to bring the desperate atmospheres under control because Bor town was totally devastated by rebel forces, there were so many dead bodies and smell everywhere in town.

The commissioner said SSRC and Catholic Relief Service (CRS) are the first humanitarian agencies that have arrived in Bor, saying soon they will move to deliver aid after assessments.

Since the devastating conflict in Bor subsided, no report on casualties has been generated but the commissioner said it will be compiled soon.

Meanwhile, during a visit by a team of legislators representing greater Bor in South Sudan National Parliament, they alleged that close to or more than 2,500 people have been killed during the conflict in Bor alone.

In December last year, Gai (the state director of SSRC) reported that humanitarian agencies have been looted by rebels after Bor fell into their hands.

He said at least seven vehicles belonging to SSRC have been allegedly looted by the rebels including vehicles for International Committee for Red Cross (ICRC) after forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar captured Bor town.
