Alexandria University in Egypt has opened its doors to South Sudanese students.

A delegation from Egypt currently on a tour of Western Bahr el Ghazal State affirmed the country’s commitment to support education in South Sudan.

The head of the delegation Dr Majdi Mohamed Ibrahim, first undersecretary for the ministry of Agriculture, said Egypt was keen on capacity building in Western Bahr el Ghazal in particular and in South Sudan at large.

“Egypt is committed to assist South Sudan in the training of personnel in a number of fields including trainings for media outlets in South Sudan. We are also interested in training medical personnel in South Sudan to enhance their capacity in addressing women’s health”, Dr Ibrahim said at a meeting with the Western Bahr el Ghazal State Governor Rizik Zakaria.

Governor Zakaria termed the visit a ‘true mark of friendship’, saying it had been agreed upon during his visit to Egypt in August this year.

“In our August visit to Cairo, we came up with four objectives, with the first being to create ties and benefit from skills and knowledge from Egypt”, he said.

He added that Western Bahr el Ghazal is opening up investment opportunities for Egyptian firms.

The team will visit a number of state government ministries to familiarise themselves with their operations.
