In the beginning of 2014, South Sudan government promised to supporttraders in rebuilding structures and shops that were destroyed at Marol market.

In a document drafted by the Office of the Chamber of Commerce earlier last year, it required about 12 million south Sudanese pounds to rebuild Marol Market.

The owner of Ramchiel Lodge in Bor town, Mabior Kuol, said he encountered losses of about 3 Million south Sudanese pounds during the crisis as his lodge got burnt to ashes during the crisis.

“We are going to write the letter again to the government to tell him that we are still suffering, there is nobusiness because we don’t have money, the shops have all been burnt, and the places burnt and now we are still waiting for the government and we want to ask the government when are you going to help us?”

Jonglei state’s Minister of finance Dhano Dhano, says that the government will compensate those who were affected.

“With this issue of damages which affected some of our traders, the leadership here and the leadership from the national government will be having a dialogue to identify the victims and see how these traders will be assisted.”

The Government’s Spokesperson, Judy Jonglei Boyoris said the traders will receive the necessary support.

“They were saying they need support from the government and our support is to give the letter of credits from the president. So this was processed by the Governor of the state and was given to the President and the President approved.”

Jonglei State was among the most affected states during the 2013 December violence.
