A group of unknown men suspected to be from Pibor raided 15 heads ofcattle in Jalle Payam in Bor County on Tuesday while one person was killed in Twic East County in a separate cattle raid on the same day.

Bor’s County Commissioner, Mamer Ruuk said that the cattle were raided from Majokuol cattle camp located in Jalle South at around 4 pm. The second cattle raid suspected to be the Murle was in Pawuoi cattle camp in Nyuak Payam of Twic East County.

“Some criminals from Pibor came to Jalle payam in Bor County and went away with 15 heads of cattle,” Commissioner Mamer Ruuk said.

He accused the Murle tribesmen for the continuous cattle raids in the eastern side of Jonglei state.

Twic East County commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch said “It is very unfortunate that we have lost one person in the attack. The other herder had injuries and has been rushed to Bor Hospital.”
Commissioner Ruuk said that in a bid to enhance peace and stop cattle raids in the State, cattle that wasstolen some months back were to be returned to their rightful owners. However this did not come to pass as the raids continue.

“We are still holding cattle under state’s police custody and we are waiting for the owners of those cattle from Pibor so that we can handover the cows. Unfortunately the incident happened when we had not even handed over the cattle” Ruuk said.
