The South Sudan government appointed committee under the leadership of Judge John Wol Makec for the investigating the human rights atrocities committed in Mid December, 2013 political violence have completed their work and handover their report to president’s office. The leadership of the investigation committee said they finished their work and presented their report to president’s office.

CEPO appreciate and welcome the leadership of the committee for making public the completion of their work and the handover of their report to presidents.  Making this information public is remarkable attitude towards protection of human rights and commitment for holding perpetrators of human rights atrocities accountability

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO said let there be transparency in handling of the investigation committee report by the government in steps of action or decisions. The transparency CEPO is asking for is making every action or decision about the report public.  As the leader of the committee John Wol Makec have started by making public his committee handover of the report to president’s office and competition of their committee work

CEPO believes in multi-ethnic society such as South Sudan making justice and accountability accomplished is the best approach of promoting peaceful ethnic co-existence.

Trading with peace over justice normally never gives chance for stability to prevail in the society.  South Sudan should not repeat the mistake of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed 2005 between South Sudan Rebels (SPLM/A) and Sudan government for ending the 21 years of the civil war.  CPA demanded immediate reconciliation and justice among the communities but the parties to the CPA purposely decided to delay the reconciliation and justice. Only three years after South Sudan independence from the rest of Sudan in 2011 faced violent conflict that now we are facing and experienced. Mr. Yakani stressed

In strong terms, CEPO is kindly urging the office of the president to make the report public although many people believe that making such report public it will resulted to step up of more violence. CEPO believe that if justice prevail and end results of that is peace and stability. Peace without justice first always it is a peace that never leads to stability.
