Juba Feb.16th, 2015.South Sudan government minister of Information also Government Spokesperson on Monday issued a warning of shutting down United Nations or UN Radio Miraya in Juba for broadcasting views of SPLM/A in Opposition with negative agitations.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization felt the continuous threats for suppression of freedom of Expression is really growing and getting worst. CEPO concern the attitude of threatening the freedom of expression is one of the practices that hinder space of public expression of opinion and access to information

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO said that the government should start applying the media laws rather than threatening the media and journalists. Using the competent court of law for addressing mistakes is much better than posing threats, intimidation and harassments.

The recent increase in control of media and journalists in South Sudan in the beginning of 2015 is indicating that the freedom of expression is under serious threat although it is stipulated in our transitional constitution of South Sudan article 24. Mr. Yakani stressed  

Finally, CEPO is urging the ministry of information to handle the government concerns on the performance of the media and journalists in consultative and productive than confrontational manner. Time has come for the application of the signed media laws
