Juba 16th July, 2015. IGAD chief mediator Seyoum Mesfin said the warring parties will meet at a summit in Addis Ababa after the Muslims’ Holy Month of Ramadan to negotiate a final peace agreement. The Holy Month of Ramadan is approaching to its end by Monday 20th July, 2015 is the start of the timeline for planning the next round of South Sudan Mediation process. Community Empowerment for Progress Organization is keen to ensure that public information on the strategy of the IGAD Plus approach is availed prior the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says that on 25th June, 2015 “Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin, Chair of IGAD Special Envoys for South Sudan, the mediation process will involve five African countries in what is known as the IGAD Plus. The IGAD plus process is on now. So next time when we invite the parties, we will invite them as IGAD plus in which all the IGAD plus countries will also send their representatives to observe and participate in all the mediation process”. Our mainly key concern now prior the resumption of the next mediation process is to know how will the mechanism of IGAD Plus will operate or function.

It is essential that South Sudanese have correctly information about the system of the mediation under the IGAD Plus approach or strategy. Providing prior information on the IGAD Plus approach or strategy for the mediation is paramount. Mr. Yakani Stressed

In strong terms, CEPO is urging equally the leadership of IGAD and African Peace and Security Council including the office of Honorable Chairperson of African Union Commission to issue public press release on the approach of IGAD Plus before the resumption of the next round of the mediation.

The key improvement that CEPO will recommend is the improvement of the mediation strategy by embracing strong engagement with the South Sudanese communities at their respective capacities. Fixing South Sudanese elites at their various capacities around the mediation as the end approach of inclusive mediation process is not enough.
