BOR, 26 August 2015 [Gurtong] – South Sudanese musician Peter Monybuny Mabil has highlighted the place of entertainment in the promotion of peace in the country.
Monybuny who hails from Jonglei State’s Pigi County has told Gurtong that artists and youth associations from the states should use their talents to spread peace messages across the state.
He said peace requires the support of every South Sudanese, adding that factors that divide the nation such as nepotism should be discouraged.
“The South Sudanese war has led to poverty and development cannot happen if war continues in the nation. As artists we need to take peace messages to the villages through entertainment such as singing of peace songs”, he said.
“All of us in Jonglei State are longing for peace because peace is not a single man’s decision. South Sudan belongs to all of us and we should all work towards bringing peace to our country”, said Monybuny.
He regretted the high deaths from the conflict, saying it was unfortunate after the long struggle for liberation.
“There is no need for South Sudanese to die like that while we have achieved our independence”, he said.
Monybuny is among the artists who have composed peace and development songs and always encourages the youth of Jonglei State to remain united.
