accounting for the highest deaths totaling to over 137,000 lives annually.

It goes ahead to reveal that annually, 91 million  people worldwide fall ill  due to food borne diseases.

In a three days meeting held in Uganda's capital Kampala discussing issues of food safety, authorities from  WHO and FAO said that 600 million people or almost 1 out of 10 people in the world fall ill every year on eating contaminated food which causes fatal deaths globally totaling to 420,000 a year.

FAO representative to Uganda, Alhaji Lallow and Dr. Tomas Jemmi from WHO said they are working round the clock to see that governments come up with relevant regulations on food safety.

''That requires building robust food control systems to ensure that food producers, manufacturers and suppliers along the food chain operate responsibly and supply safe food to consumers.'' said  FAO representative in Uganda Alhaji Lallow.

Uganda food sellers association chairperson,Nelson Muwanga said that most people who sell food in the towns in the country operate in dirty places.

Muwanga said,''Something must be done because most of the low income earners eat from such places.That is the reason food related diseases are on the rise in the country.''

Currently there are hundreds of caeses of cholera in eastern democratic Republic of Congo,Uganda and Kenya.
