The Upper Nile State Governor has told authorities in Juba that the security situation in his state is now calm following an earlier clash among Sudan Armed Forces-SAF.

While Briefing the press at Juba International Airport, His Excellency Simon Kun said that the SAF clash was incidental and that the government was not aware.

“The incident which occurred in Upper Nile recently was not our making, killing of innocent civilians could have been prevented if the state was alert”, he said.

Upon his arrival, Kun was received by Members of Parliament in the South’s regional assembly from Upper Nile and other dignitaries and citizens from the state in Juba.

Kun said that his Juba visit was to address the security situation in his Upper Nile state and developmental issues.

The Governor further said that right after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement-CPA in 2005, Upper Nile has gone through tough security situations causing agitation among the state Citizens.

Kun also revealed that, the SPLA Chief of staff Gen. James Hotmai promised to integrate the South’s soldiers who were in SAF to SPLA. He also promised to ensure that they receive their salaries this month under SPLA control.

Kun is expected to meet President Salva Kiir and other key security personnel in the Government of Southern Sudan-GOSS, to brief them on the Upper Nile situation.

Much of the 2011 budget read by the GOSS Minister of Finance and Economic Development last month, was allocated to security.
