The government of Egypt has pledged to boost education development in South Sudan. This was confirmed following a meeting on Thursday between the GOSS Minister of Education and Secretary General of the Egyptian Technical Cooperation for Africa-ETCA in Juba.

Briefing the press shortly after the meeting, Secretary General of the ETCA, H.E Michael Milli explained that Egypt will be sending teachers to South Sudan in an effort to support the GOSS through capacity building in strengthening Education.

The support which will be mainly on Teacher’s capacity building and mainstreaming girl-child education, is an effort meant to minimize challenges in the education sector the semi autonomous region is likely to face after its secession.

Milli said ETCA has pledged to establish a training college for teachers and equip computer laboratories in secondary schools for the new nation to-be.

The Egyptian delegation also agreed to support technical education by funding the training of technical teachers, commending that technical education is important to develop skills necessary for the labor market in the new country.

H.E Milli added that he lobbied the team for the recognition of the educational certificates from South Sudan by neighboring countries and the international community.

ETCA’s Dr. Fatima Jalal told the press that, Egypt will support the mainstreaming of girl-child education, educational programs evaluation, education for special needs, and logistical aid for educational programs.

She also said that her team was in the country to assure South Sudanese that the projects Egypt support will proceed as planned even when South Sudan declares independence. She also said that they were assessing what has been achieved so far in a bid to ensure that the projects accomplish their initiated.
