Senior BJP leader who is also the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, on the eve of Diwali visited Tihar Jail to have a rendezvous with MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora and L K Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni, who are all in custody in connection with the cash-for-votes scam.

Her visit came a day after Amar Singh was granted bail in the case. This was Swaraj’s second visit to Tihar to meet the accused.

Speaking to mediapersons outside the jail, Swaraj said: “It is the festival of Deepawali. This is our biggest festival. And three of our friends are in jail for no reason. They are innocent.”

“The least we can do is meet our people, tell them that we stand by them. It is a festive day, we can give them some mewa and mithai and just let them know that we care,” she said.

“Their spirits are high. That gave us confidence. In fact, they told us that we should not worry about them. The struggle is on. We are with them,” said Swaraj, who was accompanied by party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Earlier in the day, Swaraj had tweeted, “Going to meet Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahavir Bhagora and Sudheendra Kulkarni in Tihar Jail today at 3 pm.”
