The Pasay City Regional Trial Court has allowed Gloria Macaoagal-Arroyo, the ex-president to stay at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) for her treatment.

Judge Jesus Mupas of the court branch 112 gave the statement allowing Arroyo to stay at the medical center and get continued treatment of her bone mineral disorder.

The court gave its decision Thursday morning declaring that Arroyo does not need to be transferred to any other detention cell upon doctors declaring that her recovery needs a lot more time. She will continue to stay at the public hospital and receive treatment irrespective of how much time it is going to take for recovery.

The court further demanded a report from the administration of the medical center about expenses incurred on the patient to analyze if the patient needs to be allowed external treatment. The judge also ordered the doctors of the former president to submit a monthly report to the court on the recovery and health of the patient.

Comelec, the Commission on Elections, is seeking the transfer of the ex-president to a regular jail to proceed on the case against her. The filed case is in respect to the electoral sabotage in Midterm elections of May 2007. Therefore, the ex-president is under hospital arrest in VMMC and is going to remain so since ex-presidents are entitled to a certain level of security in their lifetime.

The court statement declared, “Former President Arroyo thus belongs to a unique class, and the accused is among the select few.”
