In respect of the severe defeat in the recent Assembly elections, Congress has now been giving out statement declaring that no parties should keep their hopes high for midterm elections, the government will complete its term.

Union minister and congress leaders, Rajeev Shukla and Jayanthi Natarajan spoke to the media saying that the government is “very much stable” at the moment and there is no need for midterm elections. They said that the Lok Shubha elections will take place in 2014 as planned. No midterm elections are required.

She addressed the media in Chennai saying “There is no question of a mid-term poll. The Union government will last its full term. Those who got elected in various States should not hope to de-stabilize the Centre.”

Seeing the results of the recent elections, Natarajan expressed that the new parties coming to power in different states should concentrate towards good governance in their regions and must cooperate with the centre to ensure that the government completes its full term other than making efforts to destabilize it. She was indirectly addressing the competitive political parties who have now come to power in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Punjab.

She further said that Congress has majority in Mani and Uttarakhand and therefore other states should also seek to work in cooperation with the center.

Commenting on the bill for Women’s Day that is yet to be approved in the Lok Shobha, she said that she will try her best to get it approved in today’s session.
