MANILA, Philippines – Former Chief Justice Renato Corona who was found guilty last week came back to the Supreme Court (SC) for the last time in order to clear up his office desk and pack up his belongings. His wife Cristina and daughter Carla accompanied him.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) released the selection procedure for application and nomination of the Chief Justice. It was requiring all the candidates to submit bank waivers to take the position of ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona. People from different departments of the high court crowded to his office to offer goodbye, approaching by batches.

“We required submission of SALN and waiver. This will be for purposes of evaluation by the JBC so if there’s a waiver we will be able to look into their foreign currency bank account,” lawyer Milagros Cayosa told the reporters.

A court worker said that they would miss Corona because he was a nice person even to them, who are the lowly employees.

Antonio Eugenio said Corona and his family were stopped from their packing by a group of court recruits because they wanted to see the ousted SC leader.

Five of the associate Justices visited Corona at his office who included Teresita Leonardo De Castro, Presbitero Velasco, Lucas Bersamin, Jose Perez and Bienvenido Reyes.

“This will be for the purpose of evaluating the fitness of the next Chief Justice,” Cayosa said. He also said that the applicants from the public sector should also be required to present a SLAN which is similar to a bank waiver.
