An explosion that caused a wall to collapse killed five and injured two in Mumbai on Friday. The incident took place in a densely-populated area of Sakinaka. Police is investigating the scene while the cause of the explosion remains unknown.

“The investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause behind fire. But, it seems, prima facie, the explosion occurred due to aluminum casting pressure in an around 1000 sq ft area,” said SH Nesrikar, deputy chief fire officer.

ATS officer on the spot said, “The workers would work there round the clock and hence due to the heat the machine exploded, so there is no terror angles”.

The wall collapsed of a house situated next to a small-scale industrial unit. Three of the deceased belong to the same family. The injured have been identified as Mangeah Patel, Sukha Patel, Bharati and her two daughters Manish and Neha.

“I saved six people but five of them, including three women, died. We tried to help those three women but they were already dead. They died because of the wall collapse,” an eyewitness said.

Apparently, the fire broke out after an explosion in the chemical factory in the Andheri area. Several fire-fighting vehicles reached the area and doused the fire.

“We came here after hearing people crying for help. We helped an old man escape,” eyewitness Sartaj Ahmed said.

Earlier in January, a fire broke in Mumbai slums killed six people and injured several. Another fire burned down three floors of the headquarters of the Maharashtra state government building in Mumbai last year.
