PKR communication director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has been accused of breaking the law by organizing a post-poll rally at Kelana Jaya Stadium on May 8. The 31-year-old was charged at the Sessions Court on Friday.

Nik Nazmi, who is also Seri Setia assemblyman, is charged with failing to notify Petaling Jaya police about the venue of the rally 10 days before the event. Nik Nizami is charged under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. If proven guilty, he might have to pay a fine of up to RM10,000.

Deputy Solicitor-General II Datuk Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah appeared for the prosecution while lawyer Eric Paulsen represented Nik Nazmi. Lawyer Eric declared that his client would launch an application at the High Court to cancel the charge explaining that it was an abuse of court’s process and breached public policy.

“This attempt to stifle the opposition is clear,” Paulsen told reporters outside the courtroom.

In the meanwhile, the opposition PR pact seems determined to continue organizing rallies termed as Black 505. One of such rallies would be held tonight in Negri Sembilan and three more rallies will be organized in Kedah, Terengganu and Malacca next week.
