Delhi Police has sent investigation squads to Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Mumabi and Hyderabad to find links to the IPL 6 spot-fixing case. Cricketer S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila have been detained for allegedly spot-fixing IPL matches and making up to Rs 60 lacs out of it. Police suspects Chandila alone got Rs 20 lacs for spot-fixing.
Delhi Police arrested Chavan immediately after the match; hence he did not have enough time to receive money from the bookies. However, Sreeshant had allegedly received his share of money. Friend Jiju has been blamed for making the deal on behalf of Sreeshant.
“Jiju has been a constant companion of Sreesanth and had been travelling with him and staying in the same hotel,” a senior police official confirmed.
On the other hand, lawyers of all three cricketers have denied allegations and termed the accusations as deep-rooted conspiracy. IPL Chief Rajiv Shukla on Friday said that the BCCI will take strict action against those found guilty. The three cricketers have been suspended by the cricket board in the wake of the incident.
Sreesanth has accused the Delhi Police for throwing dirt at him which has caused great damage to his repute. Lawyer Deepak Prakash claims that all the allegations made against his client are baseless. He maintains that Delhi Police does not have any evidence against Sreesanth.
Delhi Police chief Neeraj Kumar said, “We are aware of only this syndicate. I said in my press conference that there may be other bookies in other cities of the country who may be indulging in similar practices. But we are not aware of this. But it would be unfair on my part to say that it is definitely happening in other cities and that there are other syndicates doing these things.”
