The special anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Islamabad extended the judicial remand of Pervez Musharraf for 14 days on Saturday. The court learned that Aamir Nadeem Tabish has been appointed as the new public prosecutor in the judge’s detention case.

The court was also informed that Advocate Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Ghumman, plaintiff of the case, has decided to withdraw his petition and will soon submit a written notification to the court. The court adjourned the hearing to June 1.

The newly-appointed public prosecutor Tabish alleges that Advocate Ghumman’s statements are only limited to the media. He said that the court shall take due action after it received an official notification. He also requested the court to give him time for preparing his defence.

Musharraf was in self-imposed exile since August 2008, when Asif Ali Zardari was elected as president. He recently returned to Pakistan to partake in the general elections. Musharraf is also tried for being allegedly involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

“I am ready for a long fight but the time has come for me to return and play my role in Pakistani politics. Security is not a concern for me and I have not asked for any security from the government. I will have my own security when I return home. These elections are very important for Pakistan and I think many of these parties are going to be surprised by the results,” Musharraf said before coming to Pakistan.
