State governments in India announce aid for flood ravaged Uttarakhand

The deadly floods in Uttarakhand have prompted several state governments to disseminate rescue teams to help pilgrims and tourists pave way out of the affected areas. While people are generously contributing to collect aid for the flooded hills, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Rs 1,000 crore for disaster relief measures.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and PM Singh also took an aerial survey of the affected areas to monitor relief activity. Latest reports from Uttarakhand confirm 102 deaths and thousands injured at tourist spots and pilgrim centers. Indian Army has appointed over 10,000 staff while Indian Air Force has sent 18 helicopters and a transport plane to gear up rescue operations.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced an aid of Rs 25 crore for the flooded areas of Uttarakhand and offered to provide additional help needed in any way. The Haryana government has announced Rs 10-crore for the relief operations in Uttarakhand.

“Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced to give Rs. 10 crore to Uttarakhand to help the state as a rescue and relief operation has been launched there following floods triggered by heavy rain,” a state government spokesman said in Chandigarh.

Similarly, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Punjab, Karnataka government, people from Maharashtra, Gujarat government, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh have announced noteworthy assistance for flood ravaged Uttarakhand.
