The Home Ministry revealed on Tuesday that over 2,100 illegal immigrants and 25 employers have been detained by law enforcement agencies in May and June. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said they inspected over 7,000 immigrants in 33 operations from May 23 to June 17.
“Malaysian employers are partly to blame for the high number of illegal immigrants (PATI) in the country by conspiring with their illegal workers and providing employment to them,” he said.
The prevailing issue of illegal immigrants working and residing in Malaysia is top priority and authorities are taking strict action against Malaysians who are hiding such people for their personal benefits.
“It cannot be denied that our people give illegal immigrants the chance to continue staying here for their own personal reasons, so we hope all parties are more alert and will not compromise with any illegal immigrant,” he said.
Furthermore, Wan Junaidi told the media that the Home Ministry took several measures to facilitate enforcement agencies during the operations – security at entrances on land and sea was tightened and premises which hire immigrants were strictly scrutinized.
“It is the duty of every citizen to ensure that illegal immigrants to not be given the shelter and employment. But what happened was there are some parties who area actually the culprit of such irresponsible action,” he added.
