Pakistan has reconfirmed the safety of its nuclear weapons and showed concern over unfounded and discriminatory policies of international agencies. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of National Command Authority (NCA) on Thursday and reinstated that nuclear weapons in Pakistan are in safe hands.

Moreover, Pakistan has time and again reassured that it will not change its policy of credible minimum deterrence and will continue guarding its nuclear weapons without entering into an arms race with any country. The official statements from NCA came soon after international media reported that the US has increased its surveillance of nuclear weapons in Pakistan.

Director-General Strategic Plans Division Lt Gen (retd) Khalid Kidwai briefed the premier and other participants of the NCA meeting about the security controls related to the strategic assets of Pakistan. However, the reports about increased US surveillance apparently remained untouched during the meeting. The official statements given after the meeting did not mention anything about the US attacking Syria, internal security scenario and increased tension at the Line of Control (LoC).

Nevertheless, the NCA confirmed that Pakistan will continue playing its role in the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) process. It also offered to share the expertise of safeguarding nuclear weapons and acting as a responsible nuclear state as it takes pride in successfully maintaining the status of a nuclear state with advanced technology for over four decades.
