Cricketer turn politician Imran Khan has shown serious concern over the recent appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman. Khan alleged that his party was neither informed nor consulted about the appointment of the new NAB chairman – a position that is considered extremely crucial in the process of reducing corrupt practices allegedly conducted by government officials and lawmakers.
Khan gave his remarks during a congratulatory ceremony organized for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Khurram Shahzad in Faisalabad. He alleged that this decision clearly indicates that the ruling party has no intentions of controlling corruption in the country. He said the new chairman could possibly shadow all the corrupt practices that took place during the previous PPP-leg government, in which case, the decision could be an outcome of an under-the-table deal between the ruling and opposition party.
“It was evident that the PML-N and PPP have some secret deal as the government has not even initiated the process to bring back Rs6 billion that Zardari had deposited in foreign banks,” he said.
Khan said that although his party has accepted the election results for the sake of democracy, PTI still stands firm against massive rigging that took place on May 11. He referred to the NADRA verification results in NA-256 Karachi, which showed that only 6,000 votes were correct and thousands were proven bogus.
“I humbly request the chief justice to intervene in sorting out the real culprits of rigging in general elections as the nation was eyeing on SC for justice,” Khan demanded.
