The court, this Saturday, rejected the petition of the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf seeking permanent exemption from appearance in a case of the murder of a cleric, Abdul Rasheed Ghazi during the Lal Masjid operation in Islamabad during 2007.

Rejecting the plea for permanent exemption from court appearance, an additional session judge has summoned former president Pervez Musharraf on May 3 in Ghazi Abdul Rasheed murder case. Additional session judge heard the case pertaining to the murder of Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdur Rasheed today. During the course of proceedings, Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar shah filed the exemption plea. He stated that Musharraf was facing life threats, adding that his client was even targeted when shifting from hospital to farmhouse. Meanwhile, Tariq Asad advocate said that the former military ruler can be summoned after making appropriate security arrangements, adding that the trial could be held in high court premises.

After hearing the arguments, the court exempted Musharraf from today’s hearing while rejected the plea for permanent exemption. The court has now summoned Musharraf on May 3.
